Dr. J.C. Cannaday Elementary School serves approximately 600-650 Pre-Kindergarten through 5th-grade students. Our campus opened in 1986 and has served the students of Mesquite, Texas over the last 35 years. We are a proud member of the Kimbrough Middle School and Poteet High School feeder pattern. As a learning community, we take pride in our commitment to adding value to ourselves and others through
Our focus at Cannaday Elementary is to guide our approximately 650 PreK through 5th grade students on the path to becoming independent thinkers and global citizens by balancing academics and social emotional experiential learning in real world settings. Our teaching has evolved over the past 35 years, as we pursue the practices that best meet and fit the needs of our students and that develop and sustain caring relationships with them, their families and our community.
We recognize and value the importance of our students’ identities and family ties. That is why at Cannaday Elementary our community is consistently invited to be part of our learning experiences at events like our Hispanic Heritage and Black History Month Living Wax Museums, monthly PTA Gatherings where students showcase their musical talents and we communicate important events that require family input, and Reading Themed Family Nights throughout the year, just to name a few.
Our mission of “Adding value to every child, every day” reminds us to constantly reflect and reassess our practice and your child’s progress and needs. We invite you to trust The Cannaday Way, become a Cannaday Cougar, and experience how we add value to your children and also welcome the value that they, and you, add to us all.
